In mid-2022, I joined Arrive Health through Artium to support this mission by extending and building a patient history system that integrates various patient information from insurance data. Leveraging my expertise from Dev3loper.ai, we aimed to create a unified view of patient history, improving the efficiency and accuracy of health data management. This project was particularly challenging and rewarding as it was my first at Artium, a consultancy renowned for its Extreme Programming (XP) practices.
Our goal was to address the common challenge of fragmented healthcare data, which often exists in multiple formats and systems. By partnering with BlueCross Blue Shield, Arrive Health was able to access a comprehensive source of medical data, including procedures, medications, visit history, and diagnoses. This integration provided healthcare providers with a holistic view of patient history, facilitating better clinical decisions and enhanced patient care.

During this engagement, I led the development and integration of a system to create a cohesive view of patient history using insurance information, including procedures, medications, visit history, and diagnoses.
Technologies and Applications
The technological stack utilized for this project included:
- Backend: Kotlin Spring
- Frontend: TypeScript React
- Infrastructure: Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC)
Team Dynamics
Our team comprised two engineers from Artium, including myself, and two engineers from Arrive Health. The organization was already familiar with Extreme Programming (XP) practices, which facilitated a smooth integration. We paired frequently with their engineers, rotating pairs to maximize knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Impact and Practices
A significant aspect of this project was integrating with the BlueCross Blue Shield API to fetch comprehensive patient data. Our backend system, built using Kotlin Spring, handled sensitive patient information with a strong emphasis on HIPAA compliance.
We developed a TypeScript React front end to display the unified patient history, enabling healthcare providers to access critical patient data efficiently. This approach supported informed clinical decisions, improved patient care, and streamlined the data management process.
Additionally, we extended existing Terraform configurations to support the new system components, ensuring a robust and scalable infrastructure.
By the end of the engagement, we had created a comprehensive platform that allowed healthcare providers to look up patient information and create a holistic view of a patient. This achievement is notable given the typical challenges of disparate data formats in healthcare. Through a partnership with the insurance provider, Arrive Health was able to consolidate a wide variety of medical data into a single source for clinicians.
Towards the end of the engagement, I also worked with other teams within Arrive Health in an enablement capacity. I spread and reinforced Extreme Programming practices, enhancing the overall development environment and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

The integration and system we developed significantly enhanced Arrive Health's ability to provide comprehensive patient data. By creating a cohesive view of patient history, we enabled healthcare providers to make better-informed decisions, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
This project was my first while at Artium, and I seamlessly fit into their Extreme Programming-focused consultancy practices.
